The Distracted Muse
October 1, 2015
I have a new day job as a teaching assistant at an elementary school. Although I am not thinking very hard about my studio work, it seems some of my best work can be done at these times. The creative muse is so illusive, I have found you have to go to the studio with a vague idea of what you want to accomplish and things will happen. Sometimes being distracted is just what you need to produce art. I am enjoying this dreamy face emerging from layers of watercolor and gouache.
I also was surprised to win an award at the annual the Central Virginia Watercolor Guild . The juror said my painting reminded her of Arthur Dove’s (1880-1946) work.
I also taught one of my favorite paint party nights. All of the paintings were so very different but so beautiful. It was a fast but successful September.
